I’m not sure why nobody thought of Big Green to be your mascot.

He could be a Big Green Monster in line with like a giant muppet or something. I mean your fight song does say:

“Oh, we will fight, fight, fight for the Tribe,
Each time the Big Green team appears.”

I hope they go with the griffin. It’s Latin so it makes the most sense with the Tribe (original definition with it being a division of the Roman Republic). That way there can a comback for when people criticize the Tribe name.

“In donning the Tribe’s new mascot costume, the selected individual will be expected to perform both with, and independently of, the College’s spirit groups (cheerleaders, dance teams, etc.)”

Maybe I’m sensitive as a former Pep Band alum, but I wish that the WM Pep Band would get some recognition once and a while as a spirit group at the College. Just a thought! Thanks for all the hard work of the mascot committee!!

Sooo, auditioning for a yet to be announced mascot with no idea when we will see it except for maybe sometime this spring. Right. Good luck with that one.

I’d rather you all get to work on getting the mascot announced than spending time and money on auditions for something we don’t even know what it is yet.

I may have auditioned if I knew what the mascot is. I will in no way shape or form become a pug dancing around the field.

After thinking about the mascot for a few months, I still think the only one of the five that would be distinctive to W&M are the king & Queen. We’re an ampersand university with both a male and a female in our name. Let’s have a male and a female mascot. As far as I know that will be unique to American universities.

Our footballs team went to the final four with no mascot. Our basketball team won twenty games with no mascot.
We went through an entire school year with no mascot.

We don’t need one. Tell the committee to stop working so hard on this project. They can all rest up for the next crisis the NCAA has in hand for us. X-Pres Nichols is gone so I don’t anticipate much will be needed in the form of needless committees any further.

To the committee: You had a good run. You did the best you could do. Relax, take a break.

I have been following this blog since it was set up to follow the mascot search and eventual naming of our new logo & mascot. It’s a “sham”. The selection committee should be ashamed of themselves. No communication at all to what is taking so long or even what the next process would be.

It is obvious they (the committee) do not follow this blog or you would think someone would have said something. I am embarrassed by the whole process. The five finalists were not well thought out or well presented. A frigging Griffin, who would want to be associated with a Griffin. Mr. & Mrs Burger King or The Phoenix, a burning freaking bird rising out of the ashes. What ashes? Did something burn down that I’m not aware? How about a dog that cannot even reproduce without science intervening. Let the ugly, drooling thing die off. Now, last but not least, The Wren. Probably the only real thought given to a mascot here. But certainly not the best there is out there. But the best we have.

Yet, we wait. Wait for a group of people that have the schools best interest in mascot selection. NOT.
